Myopia Management Customized to Your Child.

At Eagle Glen Optometry, we offer evidence-based myopia management designed to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children and help protect their long-term eye health. Our doctors develop a personalized treatment plan based on your child's age, prescription, and lifestyle.

We specialize in treatments proven to help slow or stop your child’s vision from getting worse, including options that may allow your child to be free of glasses and contact lenses all day.

Researchers believe that the environment kids grow up in today, with too many close distance activities (like reading and device use) and lack of outdoor play is contributing to the rapid increase in childhood myopia.

While eyeglasses and contact lenses compensate for a child’s blurry distance vision, they don’t stop your child’s vision from continuing to deteriorate. As children grow, myopia often develops as they reach school age and typically gets worse through school age years.

Treatment Options

We offer several proven myopia management options, and your doctor will recommend the best plan for your child. Options may include:

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K / CRT) — specially designed contact lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea and provide clear daytime vision without glasses or contacts.

Specialty Contact Lenses — including dual-focus and other myopia control contact lens designs for daytime wear.

Atropine Eye Drops — low-dose prescription eye drops that can help slow myopia progression in children.

Stellest Myopia Control Lenses — advanced eyeglass lens technology designed to help slow myopia progression in children.

Your child needs a Comprehensive Eye Exam, not just a vision screening! A comprehensive eye exam is different than a vision screening, which only tests visual acuity, and is commonly performed by a school nurse or other health care provider. Only your eye doctor can perform a comprehensive eye exam to evaluate the overall health of your child's eyes and detect any changes that may indicate a vision disorder.

Myopia Epidemic. Childhood myopia rates are increasing. Many researchers believe reduced outdoor time and increased screen time on devices are part of the problem. Myopia often leads to struggles in school and activities for your child due to poor vision, as well as increased eye disease risks.
